Armed Forces Bowl – SMU v. Army 12-30-2010

The Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl moved from Fort Worth to Dallas this year as TCU’s Amon Carter Stadium undergoes renovations.  This year’s game at SMU’s Ford Stadium featured the Army Black Knights and the SMU Mustangs.  A record crowd of 36,742 watched as Army prevailed 16-14.

SMU v. Texas Tech

I travelled to Lubbock to watch SMU’s season opener against the Texas Tech Red Raiders.  It was a very hot day, but I really enjoyed the atmosphere at Jones AT&T Stadium.  Loud crowd and a good game that came down to the final possession with Tech hanging on for a 35-27 victory.

SMU Basketball – 2nd half of season

It was an interesting second half of the season for the Mustangs.  The team showed improvement, and after losing a 24 point 2nd half lead to the UAB Blazers the team bounced back to finish 8th in Conference USA with a 7-9 conference mark (14-17 overall).   They saw their first conference wins against the Memphis Tigers and Houston Cougars during the conference schedule.

Here are some of my favorite pictures from the 2nd half of the season.

SMU Basketball 2009-10

I haven’t been posting pictures after each game, so I thought I would post some of my favorites from this year so far.

SMU v. Tulane

The SMU Mustangs beat Tulane to end the season at 7-5.  With the victory SMU ensured its first bowl berth in 25 years.  Congratulations to the Mustang football team and good luck in the Aloha Bowl.

SMU v. UTEP 11-14-09

SMU held on to defeat the UTEP Miners by a score of 35-31.  It took as stop on 4th and goal for the Miners, but the win made the Mustangs bowl eligible and has them sitting atop the West of Conference USA.

SMU v. Rice

November 7, 2009 – It was Homecoming at SMU as the Mustangs took on the Rice Owls.  SMU took at early lead but were soon down to the winless Owls.  It wasn’t until Sterling Moore blocked a Rice field goal attempt and Bryan McCann returned it for a touchdown on the last play of the first half that SMU would take the lead for good.  It wasn’t easy, but the Mustangs were able to hold out for a 31-28 win.  Next week the Mustangs face the UTEP Miners, and a victory will make the Mustangs bowl eligible!

SMU v. Navy

October 17, 2009 – Dallas, Texas - SMU battled Navy for the Frank Gansz Trophy.  President & Mrs. Bush were on hand for the coin toss, the Navy Seals parachuted in the game ball and there was a fly by from three F-18s during the National Anthem.  The game lived up to the hype with Navy and SMU battling into overtime.  Navy came out on top 38-35.

SMU v. East Carolina

October 10, 2009 – Dallas, Texas – SMU faced off against the defending Conference USA champion East Carolina Pirates.  East Carolina went into the game as the favorites, but it was SMU who ended up on top 28-21 in a back and forth game that wasn’t decided until the last minutes of the fourth quarter.  The victory sees SMU go 2-0 in conference for the first time since 1986 when SMU was 3-0 in the old Southwest Conference.
