SMU Basketball – 2nd half of season

It was an interesting second half of the season for the Mustangs.  The team showed improvement, and after losing a 24 point 2nd half lead to the UAB Blazers the team bounced back to finish 8th in Conference USA with a 7-9 conference mark (14-17 overall).   They saw their first conference wins against the Memphis Tigers and Houston Cougars during the conference schedule.

Here are some of my favorite pictures from the 2nd half of the season.

Amanda – Sports Illustrated Cheerleader of the Week – December 24, 2009

I was lucky enough to be allowed to shoot an SMU pom squad member, Amanda Green, for Cheerleader of the Week feature for Sport Illustrated.  The feature was put on on si.com on December 24, 2009 to coincide with the SMU football team’s first bowl game appearance in 25 years in the Hawaii Bowl.  You can see the pictures and Amanda’s 20 questions at the following site:  http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/extramustard/12/22/cheerleader.of.the.week/index.html.  Here are some of my favorite pictures (some of which didn’t make it on si.com) and some outtakes.  I hope you like them.

SMU v. Tulane

The SMU Mustangs beat Tulane to end the season at 7-5.  With the victory SMU ensured its first bowl berth in 25 years.  Congratulations to the Mustang football team and good luck in the Aloha Bowl.

SMU v. UTEP 11-14-09

SMU held on to defeat the UTEP Miners by a score of 35-31.  It took as stop on 4th and goal for the Miners, but the win made the Mustangs bowl eligible and has them sitting atop the West of Conference USA.

SMU v. Stephen F. Austin

Saturday, September 5, 2009 – Dallas, Texas:  SMU defeated Stephen F. Austin for their first opening game victory since 2000.  The victory against SFA was not a  pretty one with the game still in doubt well into the second half.  With two minutes left, and SMU up 24-23 SFA’s kicker missed a field goal, and on the subsequent possession Miami transfer RB Shawbrey McNeal broke a 49 yard touchdown run to preserve the victory for SMU.

On a day when SMU’s passing attack was not very effective McNeal, who was granted permission by the NCAA to play this year only the day before, rushed for 158 yards on 19 carries and scored one touchdown.
